Add your core to the Research Core Directory!

The Office of Research has developed an online Research Core Directory to bring visibility to all UC Davis research cores, research facilities, and shared resources. The directory will serve as a centralized and searchable database for researchers to discover and access the research resources available across campus, including specialized instruments, expert services, and collaboration opportunities.

Explore the Cores Directory which highlights the first round of core additions from user testing: https://core-directory.or.ucdavis.edu/.

Are you wondering if this Directory is for your unit? Probably YES! The Directory is very inclusive (see below**).

How do I add a core to the Directory? Complete an entry for your core to ensure that our directory is robust and comprehensive. To establish an entry, simply email [email protected] with the following details:

  1. Name of the core or shared resource unit
  2. Core website address
  3. Primary contact email

**For the Directory, the term “core” includes any UC Davis research core or shared research facility or unit (regardless of designation as a Campus Research Core Facility) on the main campus, in Sacramento, and at off-campus locations in all schools and colleges. Research cores and shared facilities include scientific recharge units, service centers providing research services, and professionally managed shared expertise, instrumentation, and equipment facilities that provide access to technologies, equipment, services, and expert consultation to enable, facilitate, and enhance the research mission of the university. The UC Davis approach to cores is comprehensive and applies to life sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, and the arts and humanities.

Congratulations Research Cores Continuity Awardees (FY2024)

The Office of Research is delighted to announce the thirteen awardees of the Research Cores Continuity Funding program for FY2024. These exceptional research cores demonstrated their commitment in advancing the university’s research mission, and the Office of Research is honored to provide one-time funds to support their operations. Learn more about the awardees and the FY2024 Research Cores Continuity funding program’s impact here: (https://research.ucdavis.edu/13-uc-davis-research-cores-receive-500k-in-awards/).

The Research Cores Continuity funding program’s primary goal is to maintain critical services that cores offer to researchers by supporting the operations and instrumentation in high-performing cores. Eligible units include any organized shared research facility or resource that provides access to technologies, equipment, services, and expert consultation to enable, facilitate, and enhance the research mission of the university. The FY2024 Research Cores Continuity funding program is supported by an investment of $500,000 from the Office of Research.

We appreciate all the applicants who applied. The program received many strong applications, and we were unable to fund every deserving proposal. Your submissions of your operational requirements and challenges have contributed valuable insights into the unmet needs in shared resource facilities across campus. These contributions play a role in our ongoing development of a strategic approach to cores. Thank you for your participation and commitment to advancing research at our university.

Please contact Isabelle Girard ([email protected]), Director, Research Core Facilities Program, with questions.

Research Core Facilities Survey Results (December 2022)

As part of the effort to understand the campus core landscape and researcher needs, the AVC Cores Working Group developed and launched an anonymous survey for the UC Davis research community, including faculty, trainees, staff, students, clinicians, and researchers. The survey was designed to solicit researcher input on the current and recent use of cores and shared facilities, including challenges, unmet needs, concerns, and comments. A copy of the full Research Cores Survey Report can be found here.
